MSN is Closing Down - The Reality Behind It

A few years ago till this day, we have all received letters to our emails telling us that MSN is closing down. We must all forward the letter to everyone on the contact list so the account we are signed in to never closes. With confusion we read the letter and immediately do as told so everything we have saved from emails to web pages and calendar entries to never disappear. People's names change with every similar forward but the point is always the same. The letter below is a sample of what you may have received:
Hey it is Andy and john the directors of MSN, sorry for the interruption but MSN is closing down. this is because too many inconsiderate people are taking up all the names (eg. making up lots of different accounts for just one person), we only have 578 names left. If you would like to close your account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. This is no joke, we will be shutting down the servers. Send it on, thanks.
WHO EVER DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED AND IT WILL COST £10.00 A MONTH TO USE. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. NOW YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY. COPY THE WHOLE EMAIL. GO BACK TO YOUR INBOX AND CLICK ON NEW. AND PASTE THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION
First of all! I would like to remind you all that this is only a HOAX! A big fat one. MSN never closed down and never will. Bill Gates with all his money isn't capable of paying a few extra thousands of dollars on installing new servers? I mean come on. What bothers me the most is that people still send it and they think it works.

Why is there such emails?
  1. Chain Letters
  2. Publicity for Other Networks
Chain Letters:

Chain letters are very common, someone sends you an email with a very important piece of FALSE INFORMATION, you're impressed or scared to not send it, so you send it to all your contact list. Well the reason behind it, is spam and junk. Companies create such letters to gather as much emails as possible in their database and either sell the list to other companies or send spam email everyday to your inbox. So by forwarding such emails you are spamming yourself and all your contact list.

Ever wonder how someone just added you randomly? It's because of chain letters. They expose all emails with names every time you forward them to your contacts. So random people would just add other emails randomly. I am sure you wouldn't like this.

Publicity for Other Networks:

Other networks can send such email to undisclosed recipients in the hopes of MSN users to panic and never trust MSN again. Resulting in switching their accounts and changing their emails. So t is an indirect way of affecting the work of MSN.

Bottom Line

MSN did not close down, it changed into Windows Live. If it closed down you wouldn't have had your hotmail account working by now. Forwarding such emails will never help you fix an online MSN account problem. The accounts provided by Windows Live are almost infinite so there will never be limited accounts.
SO IF YOU RECEIVE SUCH EMAILS PLEASE DO NOT SEND THEM TO ANYONE SO YOU WON'T SPAM THEM OR SPAM YOURSELF.
